Dolphin

I went to dolphin tour today!

I love dolphins since I was small.

Well anyway, this dolphin came up to me while I was swimming.

He passed in front of me like saying Hi! to me.

That was so nice!

I'd love to go on the tour everyday!!

The tour is called Dolphins and You.

Waking up at 5 a.m. was kind of hard but great experience!

Swimming with dolphins for about 10 min in the ocean by the Makua beach.

Relaxing and spiritual feelings.

Sunny Days Come Back!

After the rainy days, finally we got our sun back! Yaaay!

I am volunteering at the Waikiki Aquarium,  but I did not go there for a month due to the weather and some other stuff.

I am working on my coral growth study and I took measurement yesterday.

I cannot believe that my corals grow so big last month! Some of them grow 10mm!! Surprising!

I was worried about the heavy raing cause damage on them, so that was good result.

The other day, I bike through the Kapiolani Park and found this mother duck and baby ducks!
Baby ducks are so cute!
They follow their mother.

Did you know they can dive??

Baby ducks flip their body and dive down and swim in the water. If you have time to go Kapiolani Park, they are in the pond by the stage!

Have a nice spring break!

My First Fire Poi

I like to try new things.

A couple weeks ago, I tried fire poi with my roommate.

Our friends let us try it.

It was so fun because I got on FIRE!!!!!

I did not realize that for seconds.

I didn't feel hot and my shorts got burned...

Anyway, I am having so much fun in Hawaii.

We have slackline in Kapiolani Park every Friday evening and Saturday afternoon.

And last night, I went to Kakaako water front park to watch more fire poi, juggling, and hula hoops.

There were music and great performers! If you are interested, you should try it!
Thursday at 8 in Kakaako.

Anyway, The Paradoxical Commandments

Last Friday, I had a chance to meet Dr. Kent Keith who wrote a The Paradoxical Commandments.

Many people think it is written by Mother Teresa.

My JPNS 290 professor Linda Fujikawa introduced Dr. Kent Keith to our class.
His story was very interesting.

Many people think success, wealth, and power are the most important for life.

Or, this is what society makes us to believe.

However, he said to us the most meaningful value is not success, wealth or power, it is love.

Relationship, family and friends are the most important things in life.

If you seek for success, wealth, and power, you will not be able to find yourself happy.

If your relationship between family and friend is good, you feel happy even though you are not powerful succeeded rich person.

My parents always ask me what I am going to do for a job.
They want me to succeed, but it was annoying to me.
When I was listening to his story, I realized they don't really want me to succeed, what they truly want me is my happiness.

It is the family love.
They are not going to say they love me since it is not Japanese Culture.
But I know they do love me, and so do I.

Here is his Webpage.

The Paradoxical Commandments
by Dr. Kent M. Keith

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

Kimono for Punahou High School

I went to assist some kimono event for Punahou High School Students.

I was able to do some of my obi for girls.

Since it was on Girls day, there were Hina Ningyo (Hina Doll) which is traditional Japanese dolls for girl's day.

This is my favorite Obi. I want to know how to do this someday!!!!

This is my work!
My teacher Ms. Sakihara helped me to finish it up.

This is called Gojomatu.

 Hina Ningyo.
This is the most standard style.

But I like this more!

This is so much cuter.

Honolulu Festival 2012

Honolulu Festival 2012 was held on March 2 to March 4.
I went there on the first day and the last day.

It's been kind of bad weather, so I couldn't take pretty picture.

That's why I decided to post some pictures that I saw in Hawaii Convention Center.

This was really big Hawaiian Quilt.
There were many beautiful Hawaiian Quilt display.

Also, there were some Japanese and Hawaiian mix Quilt. It was very interesting.

This is my favorite flower arrangement.
I wish to have this bouquet for my wedding someday... with someone...hahaha

I love this color and combination of flowers.

When I saw this one, I was like this is so huge!!

Do you know what this is?

This is a Nagaoka fireworks ball.

This is hand made, and it is very dangerous job to do.

This is sponge for dish. I make some of those but not like this cat pow. I only know how to make Rose and Some flower. This sponge is very Eco-friendly because you don't really need dish soap.

This little girl was playing Japanese traditional toy called "Kendama".

I used to have two when I was small.
I can do some tricks.
I wanted to show it off, but I didn't.

It was only for Keiki (kids).
Too bad....
OH yeah!
This is really Hawaiian!!

Our favorite food...Spam musubi!!!!!!

Wait a minutes!
This is not real food.

This is a candle.

Do Not Eat!

I really have fun at Convention Center. There were so many different things to see.

It was very good event that people can share their own culture and craft.
